"Great little netbook at an affordable price. Specs are pretty standard for a 2010/2011 netbook: 1G RAM, 250Gb HD, 3 USB ports, basic video camera, separate Mic & headphone jacks, sd card slot, vga output and a very useful 8h battery life.

There are a lot of netbooks like this on the market, but what really stands out for me on this one is the keyboard, FULL size main keys with ALL the cursor movement keys: DEDICATED up, down, right,left, PGUP, PGDN, HOME and END. I work a lot with excel spreadsheets and it is really uncomfortable to move pressing fn+end/up orf+end/down or ctrl+fn+home, ctrl+fn+end, etc. to move around. Also scrolling with pgup/pgdown while reading a long web page is a pain when you have to press also the fn key! With most netbooks you have to live with the fn key, not in this case, the NB505 keyboard is really practical and comfortable, almost like a full laptop or pc keyboard, even do the position of the keys is not standard, they let you do the work easier and faster.

I also really like the case feeling: like some very soft rubbery cover, it looks nice and grips nice!

Windows 7 Starter is really basic, but you can find programs, utilities and tips on the Internet to take care of the basic "missing features" like changing the background image, colors, sounds, re-size pictures, etc. I got rid of most of the Toshiba utilities and also Norton, and installed MS Security and my preferred freeware home edition utilities.

I would have liked to have stereo speakers, but the netbook only includes a mono speaker under the unit...."

"I'm so tired of turning on the news the Monday after Black Friday and having to hear about how much money the big retailers did or didn't make. As if that's the point of our year-end holidays. I'm tired of Christmas being promoted BEFORE Halloween. I'm sick and tired of these attempts to brainwash us into thinking Christmas is about how much money we spend. Every American has the right to spend Thanksgiving with their families - its a national holiday! This is employee-abuse, plain and simple, and an threat to EVERY American worker. Diaspora social network was started by four New York University students, Ilya Zhitomirskiy, Dan Grippi, Max Salzberg and Raphael Sofaer...They actually came up with the crazy idea not to sell or share YOUR personal information which you have entrusted in their network (to advertising companies for monetary gain)...Their inspiration came when they sat in on an address by Dr. Eben Moglen, a Columbia University law professor, to the Internet Society's New York Chapter...Dr. Moglen attributed centralized social networks of "spying for free"...

Crowd sourcing was used to generate startup capital for Diaspora, the not for profit, user owned distributed social networking site...On April 24, 2010, Kickstarter, a microfunding website launched their project for them, estimating that it might take 39 days to raise the assessed $10,000 that they required to get their project officially off the ground...Well, within 12 days they had raised their measley $10k and raised a total of $200,000 from more than 6500 investors including Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook...It was the second most successfully launched project on the Kickstarter website...

On November 23, 2010 the alpha version of Diaspora was released privately by invitation only... The Diaspora Foundation website launched at the end of September 2011...Next a fundraising campaign which started in October 2011 was temporarily suspended when PayPal froze the foundation's account (which had raised over $45k dollars in a few days) and then eventually releasing it without an explanation or apology... So of course the foundation diversified its funding streams by adding Stripe and Bitcoin as donation avenues...

The Entertainment Industry, stars, fans, friends and family of Dwight Arrington Myers, bka "Heavy D" are still reeling from his sudden death...It seems he was poised for a comeback, potentially courting thirty-something year old hip-hop fans...Standing 6'3" and usually weighing in over 300 lbs, he had managed to shed 150 lbs in 2005 for the lead role for a Will Smith production, "Medal of Honor Rag"...You can see in the photo above how much lighter he looked in 2008... But you will see in the report below from ABC News that last month, October 2011, when he performed, at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, for the first time in over 15 years that he had regained a lot of the lost weight...






Heavy D was a pioneer in the Entertainment Industry for weight challenged people...Also, he managed to bring hip-hop into the mainstream as you will see in the Sprite commercial below which Heavy D & the Boyz performed in, in 1990... Heavy D's private funeral will be held in Mt. Vernon, NY where he grew up...Although his funeral is private, Mary J. Blige, Sean "Diddy" Combs and the Wayans Brothers (formerly of In Living Color, of which Heavy D recorded the theme song) are all expected to attend...Heavy D is survived by his parents and his 13-year old daughter...

"Smokin' Joe" Frazier and "Heavy D" both died on November 8, 2011...

Boxing fans worldwide and Hip Hop Music fans around the globe are mourning the deaths of two great men, each in their respective arenas...Boxing legend "Smokin' Joe" Frazier died from the effects of liver cancer at the age of 67 in Philadelphia on the same day as "Heavy D" on November 7, 2011 (I apologize for erroneously reporting that Joe Frazier and Heavy D died on the same day...The news reports of both deaths were heavily reported on the same day November 8, 2011)...Heavy D died on November 8, 2011 at a hospital in Los Angeles at 1pm...

Joe Frazier's professional boxing record was 32-4-1 with 27 knockouts...He held the World Heavyweight Championship belt from 1968 to 1973...Before turning professional, Frazier also won the heavyweight gold medal in the 1964 Summer Olympic Games...Although he defeated Muhammad Ali, his archenemy, in the 15th round in the 1971 "Fight of the Century", he was defeated by Ali in the 14th round in the 1975 "Thrilla in Manila" fight in the Philippines... The infamous boxing promoter Don King said that Frazier was, "the embodiment of what a great heavyweight champion and person should be."...





Sadly enough Dwight Arrington Myers, bka "Heavy D", also died on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the age of 44 apparently of respiratory distress after having flu-like symptoms the day before prompting a visit to the
doctor...And his cousin, Ruddy Phillips said that he had been complaining of having a "touch of pneumonia"... Heavy D turned actor after first achieving success as a rapper, record producer, singer and the former leader of Heavy D and the Boyz...Heavy D was nominated for several awards including four grammys and won the award for Best Rap Album in 1990 at the Soul Train Awards...Having acted on television and in motion pictures his latest work can be seen in theaters now in the film "Tower Heist", which was premiered just four days before his death...







It's truly a sad and crazy coincidence that these two truly great men died on the same day...
